AFP arrests man accused of hacking NBN wholesaler

Australian Federal Police have arrested a 25 year-old unemployed man alleged to have hacked into NBN wholesaler, Platform Networks.

The unemployed truck driver who had operated under the handle, “Evil”, was arrested at his Cowra home in central west New South Wales yesterday, according to Fairfax.

Federal police Assistant Commissioner, Neil Gaughan, said the hacker had “basically taken over” Platform Networks’ system and had been mapping out its network. The man had sought employment in the IT sector, but failed, according to Gaughan.

The man was charged with 49 offences on Tuesday night and is expected to face Orange Local Court on Wednesday.

He is accused of using password crackers and calling the company in an bid to gain security credentials to access its systems. Police alleged the man's hacking efforts were driven by bragging rights.
