Former Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry director of policy Karen Curtis has been named by the government as Australia's second Privacy Commissioner and will take up her post of July 12.
Best known for lobbying the interests of the small business community on environmental matters, Curtis also comes equipped with background in ICT - having chaired the Small Enterprise Telecommunications Centre in addition to holding advisory posts at the Departments of Prime Minister and Cabinet and Industry Science and Technology.
According to acting Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim, Curtis was picked for her "extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the business community and government", and has held a statutory appointment to the Commissioner's Privacy Advisory Committee, which advises the privacy commissioner on regulatory matters.
Peter Ford and Graeme Innes have also been reappointed to their seats on the Privacy Advisory Committee.
