Troubled Canadian handset maker Research in Motion has rolled out a beta program for its new mobile device management service for Android, iOS and of course, BlackBerry devices.
Services under its new BlackBerry Mobile Fusion include security, policy, software and connectivity management to help corporations keep data secure.
The product is expected to leave beta testing by March 2012, and looks to be based on the the company's acquisition of German mobile device management company ubitexx earlier this year.
If so, RIM has fallen behind schedule for its planned release of a multi-platform BlackBerry product, which was originally due by the end of 2011.
“BlackBerry Mobile Fusion brings together our industry-leading BlackBerry Enterprise Server technology for BlackBerry devices with mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices, all managed from one web-based console," Alan Panezic, Vice President, Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at Research In Motion.
For the few companies that have actually bought its slow-selling PlayBook tablet, Mobile Fusion will offer a self-service feature for employees to secure any lost or stolen tablets, or its more popular BlackBerry phones.
The move into general mobile device management would pit it against companies like , which recently reported an uptick amongst its customer base of Android phone activations.
